East Rural Real Estate
Isolated on the far eastern end of the island, East Rural Maui is a place you don’t just happen upon, it’s a “it’s the journey, not the destination” kind of place that while it’s primary town, Hana, is only 52 miles along Maui’s northern coastline from Kahului, getting there involves driving anywhere between two to four hours slowly through hairpin turns and over narrow, winding roads and that cross some 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one lane wide. But oh, the payoff!
The scenery to and from peaceful Hana is unquestionably some of the most spectacular on Earth. Waterfalls, dense jungles, cliff-crashing waves, taro fields, primeval rainforests, and ocean vistas guaranteed to steel your breath away at almost every turn.
There are so many places you’ll want to stop just to soak it all in, or enjoy a treat of delicious banana bread, pineapple spears or dried coconut chips at any one of the many roadside stands. But be forewarned, before you even reach Hana, you might run out of time and decide to turn around rather than navigate the road at night. When it comes to Hana, it’s best to plan ahead knowing it’s likely to be a whole-day adventure.
