Your first Maui experience occurs upon landing in Kahului when stepping from plane to open-air terminal, you are enveloped in the soft warmth of the island’s gentle trade winds.  But in the rush to collect your luggage and rental car, and head for your hotel or condo probably in one of the island’s famous beach, you don’t notice the jaw-dropping beauty of Central Maui.   

 

There’s no question that Maui’s main attraction, aside from perfect weather year ‘round, is its magnificent beaches.  But there’s so much more to the island and Central Maui’s communities of Kahului and Wailuku are the ideal place to begin experiencing all of Maui’s many faces. From the island’s main shopping center to quaint shops and eateries, to The Port of Maui, to Iao Valley State Park, and to the world renowned Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Central Maui is a jewel well worth investigating.

 

Not only is Central Maui one of the island’s most active real estate markets with homes and condos priced more moderately than in beach areas, it is also one of the greenest parts of the island due to frequent, light cooling rains.  Situated on the wide lowland plain between the West Maui Mountains and 10,200 ft. Haleakala, Central Maui is the street fair/live theater/festival/concert/government hub of “The Valley Island” and the perfect spot to begin exploring off-the-beaten-path Maui treasures.
